Prep Roundup, Nov. 29: Beaufort High wrestlers open season with pair of wins

Beaufort High: The Eagles began their season with a pair of dual wins over Georgia schools, defeating South Effingham, 50-18, and holding off Effingham, 39-35.

Beaufort High (2-0) had several double-winners on the night: Jake Sharp (106 pounds), William Spann (113), Michael Holmes and Wesley Hunt (145), Forrest Kimbrell (152), Trey Arant and Brandon Blackmon (160), Jake Harris (195) and Tyler Wilson (285)

Beaufort High will travel to Greenville this weekend for the Southern Slam individual tournament.


Hilton Head Prep 68, Holly Hill Academy 23: The Dolphins opened their first season under coach Jerry Faulkner with an easy win in the first round of the Colleton Prep tournament.

Hilton Head Prep jumped out to a 25-1 lead after the first quarter, and none of the Dolphins' starters played more than two quarters.

Randy Young and John Eck each scored 17 points for Hilton Head Prep, while Charlie Wilmot had 16 points and three assists. Shaun Topper and Sam McCracken had six rebounds apiece, and John Sheehan had three assists for the Dolphins, who will face either Colleton Prep or Laurence Manning in the next round at 8 p.m. Friday.
