United Way encourages donations on 'Giving Tuesday'

United Way of the Lowcountry is asking people to donate today as part of "Giving Tuesday," following on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Giving Tuesday is dedicated to encouraging charitable contributions that support people in need, according to a news release.

To make a secure online donation, go to www.uwlowcountry.org. Donations also can be made at United Way offices at 2266 Boundary St. in Beaufort; 1538 Fording Island Road, Suite 107, at Bridge Center in greater Bluffton; or at 306 Third Ave. in Ridgeland.

"We have so many needs in Beaufort and Jasper counties," Clarece Walker, CEO and president of United Way of the Lowcountry, said in the release. "Our campaign goal is $2.8 million to meet those needs, and we hope 'Giving Tuesday' will boost that giving."
