Lowcountry Legal Volunteers thankful for Heritage Classic Foundation grant

info@islandpacket.comNovember 25, 2012

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers would like to express gratitude to Heritage Classic Foundation for a $5,000 grant to enable us to continue providing legal advice, education and representation to low-income families in Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties.

In the first three quarters of 2012, Legal Volunteers has conducted 300 intake interviews, opened 111 new litigated cases, attended 88 hearings in three counties, held pro se divorce clinics and spoken to clients of other nonprofit groups regarding their legal rights and answered at least 1,600 telephone calls to give advice or referrals to local residents.

We have been blessed with dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers and staff, but we would not be able to reach as many people if it were not for the financial assistance of giving organizations, such as the Heritage Classic Foundation.

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers is the only nonprofit group located in our area that provides free legal services to citizens in probate, magistrate and family court crises.

With the help of the foundation and other local donors, we are able to stabilize families through child custody and support actions, guardianships, assistance in landlord tenant disputes, divorce, adoption and so many other ways. We thank you.
