John and his wife, Jane, are a middle-aged couple who often volunteer at a nonprofit organization during the winter.
A few years ago, Jane underwent treatment for a brain tumor, leaving John as the only wage-earner. A few months ago, John was injured and couldn't work for a while. Soon after his injury, the restaurant where he was employed was sold, and the new owner fired him.
It was time for the volunteers to seek help.
When the couple came to The Deep Well Project, they were short on rent. Their longtime landlord vouched for the couple, saying they always paid their rent on time. Deep Well helped pay the rent, and the following week, it also provided a week's worth of groceries for the couple.
Deep Well provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, the sick and the elderly.
