Julianne Tarallo and Anthony Vecchio were the 5-kilometer champions Thursday in the 24th annual Turkey Trot on Hilton Head Island, while Claire Dickmann and Jamey Epstein were the overall 10-kilometer winners.

Nearly 1,400 runners took part in the races, which ran through Hilton Head Plantation.

Tarallo, of South Easton, Mass., won the women's 5K race by more than a minute, finishing with a time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds. Vecchio, a University of South Carolina Beaufort cross country runner who recently competed in the NAIA national championships, was the overall 5K winner with a time of 15:43.

Epstein was the overall 10K champion, clocking in at 36:28, while Dickmann -- who finished fifth overall -- was the women's 10K winner with a time of 38:19.
