Democratic victory not a move to socialism

I read with great interest a recent letter in which the writer stated the Democratic victory was a socialist movement. It just shows that he is one of the misinformed people deluded by biased propaganda that comes from Fox News and a portion of media commonly referred to as "talk radio."

I suggest we all just take a deep breath and really take stock of what is going on in this great land of ours. The closest thing to socialism we have in America is Medicare and Social Security. In these programs, all of us pay into the system so that just about everyone can benefit. Does the letter writer want to do away with these programs? Note that they were not put in place by the current president or even President Bill Clinton (who was also called a socialist by the right), but by Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s.

Is the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) socialism? If so, it is no more socialistic than our auto insurance, which is required by law. Did our current president enact that piece of legislation? Does the letter writer want to repeal that?
