A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday night on Hilton Head Island, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Troopers believe the man was killed at about 10:30 p.m. on Dianah's Drive near Marshland Road.

The man's name and age have not been released. Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said Thursday that next of kin have not yet been notified. The body has been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy.

Troopers and the patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team continued to investigate the crash scene Thursday but have not established a description of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run or the vehicle involved can call the patrol at 843-953-6010 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
