Former Jasper school district employee arrested

Published: November 15, 2012

A former Jasper County School District employee was charged Wednesday with computer crimes, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

Antroy Shawn Abram, 35, of Luray is charged with a first-degree violation of the Computer Crime Act, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

SLED spokesman Thom Berry said Abram deleted files from the school district server, including the library card catalog, student records and other information.

District spokeswoman Shellie Murdaugh said in an email that Abram worked in the district's technology department. The district requested the investigation after discovering the missing data and has since taken steps to improve the system's security, she said.
