Prep Roundup, Nov. 14: Hilton Head Christian girls open basketball season with win

Hilton Head Christian 50, Frederica Academy 38: The Eagles (1-0) opened their season with a win at the Lady Gator Classic in Statesboro, Ga.

The game wasn't pretty. The Eagles tallied 27 fouls and led just 14-12 at the half. Trailing 28-26 at the end of three quarters, Hilton Head Christian outscored Frederica Academy 24-10 in the final frame to take the win.

Audrey Bensch led Hilton Head Christian with 15 points, while Andy Anderson added 13. Ziaree Doe added eight, and Francesca Guidobono had six.

Nici Pressley scored 14 to lead Frederica Academy.

The Eagles face David Emmaunel at 7 p.m. Thursday in Statesboro.

Beaufort Academy 64, Coastal Christian 14: Miranda Weslake had 24 points and 10 steals, and all 10 of Beaufort Academy's players scored in the season-opener.

Beaufort Academy led 24-3 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 39-4 by halftime.

Kiana Fortner added 12 points for the Eagles (1-0), who had 19 assists as a team.

Beaufort Academy 42, Coastal Christian 29: Conner Akers tallied 11 points, three steals, seven rebounds and four assists, while teammate Finn Koppernaes had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles (1-0) to a season-opening win.

Jacob McCubbin led Coastal Christian with 18.

The Eagles host Colleton Prep at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
