Beaufort County Airports director Paul Andres apparently has been fired.

County administrator Gary Kubic said today he asked for and received Andres’ resignation last week.

“I hired Paul. Paul was fully capable, but I know that everything was wearing on him, and probably to a point, so was the county administrator,” said Kubic, who is in Ohio early this week. “We had a difference of opinion, and I told him if you have issues, I will accept your resignation.

“I wanted his resignation, so he gave me his resignation, and I will leave it at that.”

As airports director, Andres was responsible for managing the Beaufort County Airport on Lady’s Island and the Hilton Head Island Airport, which offers commercial service to Charlotte.

Kubic said Andres had become “frustrated” with several aspects of the job, including the ongoing review of the Beaufort County Airport master plan and challenges surrounding the Hilton Head Airport.

Andres could not immediately be reached for comment.
