Challenging weather conditions complicated matters for many competitors Sunday at the JY-15 North American Championships, being held near the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club.

Beaufort's John Potter used those shifting winds to his advantage and took over the lead after seven events.

The championships conclude today.

Two-time champion Potter leads by two points over Paul-John Patin of Sayville, N.Y. Connecticut's Bill Nightingale climbed into third after Sunday's races, and Beaufort's Will Monts is fourth.

Norton, N.Y.'s Joe Healy rounds out the top five.

All seven races through the first two days have been won by seven different competitors.
