A 52-year-old California man convicted of second-degree murder was arrested by Beaufort Police Thursday on a parole violation charge, according to the Beaufort Police Department's Facebook page.

The U.S. Marshal Service alerted police that Edward Dennis Butler Sr. of Escondido, Calif. was staying at a local motel and officers arrested him there without incident as he waited for a cab, the post said. Beaufort Police could not be reached late Thursday to determine which motel Butler was staying at.

Butler was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center and awaits a bond hearing and extradition to California.

Details about how long Butler has been in the area and his murder conviction were unavailable late Thursday night.
