A 13-year-old girl died Thursday after being hit by a car Halloween night on Alljoy Road in Bluffton, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Seaira Bre-An Boulineau was leaving a vehicle and attempting to cross the street near 73 Alljoy Road just before 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a 2005 Mazda driven by a 17-year-old Bluffton girl, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.
Drugs, alcohol and texting were not a factor in the incident, according to Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Bob Beres, and charges will not be filed against the driver.
"It's pretty cut-and-dry that the child ran out right in front of the driver," Beres said.
Capt. Randy Hunter of the Bluffton Township Fire Department said Boulineau was taken by Beaufort County ambulance to Hilton Head Hospital before being flown to Savannah's Memorial University Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m. Thursday, according to Beaufort County deputy coroner David Ott. Death was the result of a head injury, he said.
Beres did not know how fast the car was going or why Boulineau was leaving the vehicle; the accident is still being investigated. He said Boulineau was wearing dark clothing.
Alljoy Road does not have street lights.
Boulineau was a student at H.E. McCracken Middle School.
