To quote Richard Mourdock, the Indiana Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate: "I think, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."
Does that mean God also intended for the woman to be raped. If God intended the life, then is it not logical that God also intended the rape? What kind of a God is it that directs that a woman be raped so she will have to produce an unwanted life?
Perhaps a bigger question for the residents of Indiana is, what kind of constituents would want to have such a narrow-minded religious conservative represent them in the nation's highest debating body? Isn't it bad enough that some right-wing religious conservatives want to control the reproductive processes of a woman's body. Now they want to free themselves of any responsibility for their narrow-mindedness by accusing God of wanting a woman to carry a rapist's baby to term.
I hope a loving God is not looking favorably on Mourdock's candidacy.
