The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's golf team made the best of a difficult day Tuesday at Cleveland (Tenn.) Country Club, maintaining its position for a second-place finish at the Lee Lady Flames Shootout.
The Sand Sharks followed their opening round of 347 with a 342 to finish at 689 in cold, windy conditions in the Smoky Mountains, finishing three shots ahead of third-place Coastal Georgia. Host Lee won the team title with a score of 656.
Senior Kelli Nakano (85-81--166) tied for fifth to lead the Sand Sharks, who played with only four players after senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan had to withdraw because of a knee injury Monday. Senior Phyllis Langley (85-87--172) and junior Kendra Collins (87-85--172) tied for 13th, and sophomore Samantha O'Donnell (90-89--179) finished 24th to round out the lineup.
The event concluded the fall season for the Sand Sharks.
