It's my understanding that Bluffton Parkway was built to help alleviate U.S. 278 congestion. Although Pinecrest residents have a legitimate concern during peak traffic hours, yielding to pressure by reducing the speed limit to 35 mph along that stretch is setting a precedent with possible unexpected consequences.
This action by Beaufort County could lead to other areas bordering the parkway making similar requests. Enough of these would negate the convenience the parkway provides and drive people back to U.S. 278, where higher speed limits prevail.
Just wondering whether the county and town have considered that prospect.
