Voters should weigh in on town pay raises

info@islandpacket.comOctober 28, 2012

I know that Hilton Head Island's mayor and Town Council are far too busy to recognize that there is a recession going on for most of us.

I hope that is the reason they voted themselves and the town manager some very excessive raises. For what performances, I don't know.

One excuse given was that the mayor wasn't making enough from his other job. Do any of these people understand the term "public servant," or is it, as I see it, a job to make as much as you can as fast as you can.

I do appreciate the nuance of voting themselves the money, rather than just taking it, but there may have been some problems with that.

How about a vote by the people on these raises?
