Hilton Head High girls finish 5th at state golf tournament

Hilton Head Island High School finished with a two-day total of 743, good for fifth Tuesday in the Class 3-A girls golf state championship at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina in Conway.

Greenville shot a two-day total of 656 to claim a 10-shot victory over second-place Pickens. Wren's Cayla Smith won the individual title by a stroke over Academic Magnet's Annika Bovender with a 3-over 72-75--147.

Smith is Wren's third consecutive individual state champion, following Kaitlin Matheson in 2010 and Maegan Higgins in 2011. Matheson is now playing at South Carolina and Higgins is at Wofford.

The Seahawks were led by Nathalie Lezcano's 82.
