A mobile-home fire on St. Helena Island early Sunday is being investigated by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

A passerby called 911 after seeing the home at 640 Seaside Road on fire, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh. The home was engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, and it was deemed a total loss.

McIntosh said the homeowner was out of town at the time, and no one was hurt. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but McIntosh said electricity was connected at the time, and debris was collected to test for fire accelerants.

Other details were not being released Tuesday. The investigation continues, McIntosh said.
