Backpack Buddies grateful to Bargain Box for grant

To Bargain Box

Backpack Buddies of Hilton Head, a program of the Hunger and Homeless Coalition and a partner of the Lowcountry Food Bank, is grateful to the support The Bargain Box has given us for 2011-2012.

Because of the generous grant, our program increased the number of undeserved children that we provide weekend meals to from 120 to 180 elementary school students. In addition, we were able to provide fresh fruit, along with shelf stable meals.

Backpack Buddies relies totally on volunteers and financial support from community organizations like The Bargain Box. Through the generosity of the community, we hope to be able to increase the number of needy children we help to 200 in the second half of the year. Through the Hunger and Homeless Coalition, we are formulating plans to support hungry children during the summer months as well as focusing on the middle school population. There is a lot more help needed to help our island's children. Thank you.
