  • The Foundation for Educational Excellence is seeking volunteers who are interested in furthering the foundation's mission to raise money for innovative teacher grants.   • Chick-fil-A Spirit Night is Thursday to benefit the fifth-grade spring field trip.

  • More than 120 third-grade students went on a field trip to Honey Horn Plantation on Hilton Head Island. Students learned about marsh life in Port Royal Sound. The school is participating in the River of Words project, which is a nonprofit organization promoting literacy and community awareness.

  • The girls' golf team placed fourth at the 2012 Girls' Golf State Championships at the Orangeburg Country Club. Anna Lesemann Eddy made the 2012 SCISA All State Golf Team.

  • Following his placement in the regional orchestra auditions, ninth-grader Tiegue Brougham-Cook has been selected to play junior bass with the Lowcountry Region Orchestra in November. He also is invited to audition for the All-State Orchestra in February 2013.

  • There is an open house 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lower School Commons. All parents who are interested in learning more about Hilton Head Preparatory School are invited to attend.

  • The next Parents Association meeting is 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in the KNS Media Center.

  • Tickets for "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" are now on sale at www.hhprep.org. Prices are $20 for adults; $10 for students; $15 for seniors (60 and older) for the Sunday matinee only. The show runs Nov. 1-4 at Hilton Head Island High School Visual and Performing Arts Center.

  • An Alumni Pancake Breakfast will be held at the school 9-11 a.m. Nov. 10. The school invites all past May River Montessori students to return and visit their old classrooms, take a tour of the buildings and eat breakfast. Details: 843-757-2312

  • ENRICHMENT

  • Third- through sixth-graders recently went on a field trip to the University of South Carolina Salkahatchie campus in Allendale. The students are learning about ancient civilizations. They saw artifacts found at the site dating back 50,000 years.

  • Josie's Frozen Yogurt Spirit Night is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Bluffton. Josie's donates a portion of the profits to the school. The first-grade teachers will work during the evening.

  • HELPING HANDS

  • The student council is sponsoring a "Holiday Food Drive" through Nov. 9. Bring canned or other nonperishable food items to the holiday box in each classroom. All food boxes will be distributed to families in need in Bluffton. The goal this year is 4,000 cans.

  • SEA PINES MONTESSORI ACADEMY

    EVENTS

  • A Family Night Out will be 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the Wreck of the Salty Dog Cafe in Sea Pines. All proceeds benefit the SPMA Annual Fund. Make reservations by calling 843-290-7770. This event is open to the public.

  • The third Scarecrow Walkabout is noon-3 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. This event is open to the public.

  • HELPING HANDS

  • Students who will travel to the Montessori Model United Nations next spring will be selling Belk Charity Sale tickets for $5 each during Friday afternoon carpools through Nov. 3.
