  • SunTrust Mortgage officials recently presented a check to members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association to renew its commitment as title sponsor of the association's annual LightHouse Awards. This will be the 13th year SunTrust has sponsored the event. The LightHouse Awards are presented each year to members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association for the demonstration of quality craftsmanship and design excellence in the construction of homes throughout the Lowcountry. This year's event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa.

  • J Banks Design received five Excellence in Design awards at the 2012 American Society for Interior Design of the Carolinas conference held recently in Charleston. The interior design firm is based on Hilton Head Island and has completed commercial and residential renovation projects across the Lowcountry.

  • The firm was awarded the following honors: First place, best model residence, Auberge Private Residences, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Second place, best hospitality, John's Island West, Vero Beach, Fla.; Second place, best vacation home, Martin Villa, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Honorable mention, residence under 3,500 square feet, Ketchum residence, Palmetto Bluff; Honorable mention, multi-unit residence, Esperanza Resort, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

  • Lowcountry Paver in Hardeeville will sponsor a paver installation course in November.
  • The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute Paver Installer Course is a two-day class designed for companies and individuals involved in the residential and commercial installation of interlocking concrete pavements. Topics covered will include Material 7 labor estimating, job planning, soil classification and compaction, safety and maintenance, and management. Participants who pass the exam and meet the minimum experience requirements can apply to receive a certificate as a certified installer.

    The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 27-28 at the Bluffton Chamber of Commerce. Registration is $250 for institute members, $350 for nonmembers. The registration fee includes an exam.
