High school volleyball, golf teams focusing on postseason competition

The quest for a state championship opens today for three area volleyball teams and a girls golf squad.

In the Class 1-A volleball playoffs, seventh-ranked Whale Branch (21-6) hosts Baptist Hill at 6 p.m.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville and Battery Creek open the Class 2-A playoffs on the road. The Jaguars are at Edisto, while the Dolphins (18-11) play at Wade Hampton, both at 6 p.m.

The Hilton Head Island girls golf team tees off at this morning in the Class 3-A Championship at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway.

The Seahawks placed second in the Class 3-A Lower State meet at last week in Murrels Inlet, behind Nathalie Lezcano's 73.
