The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team had its three-game win streak come to an end Friday with a 7-0 loss at Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga., but the Sand Sharks also clinched a spot in the Sun Conference tournament by virtue of Florida Memorial's loss to Northwood.
USCB (9-8, 4-4 Sun Conference) can finish no worse than eighth in the conference. The top eight qualify for the tournament; the winner of the conference championship game will earn an automatic berth in the NAIA tournament, while the remaining seven teams will play in the conference tournament beginning Nov. 1.
The Sand Sharks had a chance to finish as high as sixth with a win Friday, but the Night Hawks (8-6-1, 3-4) took control from the start. USCB's scoreless streak -- which was at 279 minutes entering the game -- ended in the second minute. Thomas scored a flurry of four goals in a 12-minute span of the second half to put it away.
The Sand Sharks complete the regular season at 1 p.m. Sunday at Embry-Riddle.
