High School Roundup, Oct. 16: HHH girls second at Lower State golf meet

GIRLS GOLF

Hilton Head Island High: The Seahawks placed second in the Class 3-A Lower State meet at Murrels Inlet, finishing 15 shots behind team champion Hartsville.

Hilton Head High's Nathalie Lezcano finished third overall after a round of 73. Merideth Langs shot 88 for the Seahawks, Merideth Wipper had 89 and Bowen Anderson carded a 98.

Hilton Head High advanced to play in the Class 3-A state finals Oct. 22-23 at Coastal Carolina University's The Heckler Course in Conway.

TENNIS

Hilton Head Christian: The Eagles bowed out in the first round of the SCISAA playoffs following a 5-1 loss to Hammond.

Monica Bundy earned the only win for Hilton Head Christian with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Caroline McGuilvery at No. 2 singles.

The Eagles finished the season 4-10.

No. 1 -- Maggie Herring (H) def. Madison Dillon 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 -- Monica Bundy (HHCA) def. Caroline McGuilvery 6-4, 6-1; No. 3 -- Destiny Gaines (H) def. Lindsey Lane 6-1, 6-4; No. 4 -- Anne Elise Goudelock (H) def. Catherine Campbell 6-1, 6-2; No. 5 -- Britt Harris (H) def. Maddy Bauer 6-0, 6-2.

Hilton Head High: The Seahawks swept the first four singles matches to knock off Dutch Fork 4-2.

Winners for Hilton Head High were Brooke Busby at No. 1, Jennifer Oliver at No. 2, Logan Danzell at No. 3 and Tate Cram at No. 4.

No. 1 -- Brooke Busby (HHH) def. Lauren Jaque 6-4, 3-6, 10-4; No. 2 -- Jennifer Oliver (HHH) def. Alison Walshe 6-3, 6-2; No .3 -- Logan Danzell (HHH) def. Anna Maria Gardner 6-2, 6-4; No. 4 -- Tate Cram (HHH) def. Caroline Sloop 6-4, 6-1; No. 5 -- Dutch Fork won by forfeit

Doubles

No. 2 -- Campbell/Shelly (DF) def. Sara Wood/Nicole Diaz 6-1, 6-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Hilton Head Prep 3, Hilton Head Christian 1: The Dolphins (9-8) downed the rival Eagles (7-14) in four sets, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17.

The Dolphins were led by Brooke Churchich with two aces and 42 assists, Halie Parker with two aces and 16 kills and Jill Brunori with five aces, eight kills and five blocks. Abby Miles added five aces and seven kills, while Taylor Kent had six kills.

The Dolphins play at 6 tonight at Bluffton.
