  • The Foundation for Educational Excellence is seeking volunteers who are interested in furthering the foundation's mission to raise funds for innovative teacher grants.     ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Art teacher Karen Beltz has been recognized by online children's art museum Artsonia for outstanding leadership in arts education at Bluffton Elementary School. The school's online art gallery ranked eighth in the state, according to Artsonia.

  • Chick-fil-A Spirit Night is Oct. 25 to benefit fifth-grade spring field trip.

  • BLUFFTON HIGH SCHOOL

    EVENTS

  • Bluffton High School JROTC will sponsor a community yard sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Bluffton High School, 12 H.E. McCracken Circle. Parking lot spaces are available for $25 or $40 for two. The JROTC Booster Club will sell hotdogs, hamburgers and baked goods. Proceeds from the sale will help pay for the Bluffton High JROTC unit's transportation to and participation in area and regional competitions and activities. Details: 843-757-7812

  • Cheerleaders will sponsor Chick-fil-A night 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday.

  • The cast of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" hosted a canned food drive to support The Deep Well Project and its Sing Well for Deep Well event. The students collected 338 nonperishable items. Seventh-grader Julia Gigante brought in the most canned goods, earning a walk-on role in the musical.

  • The 2012 Homecoming Court is: ninth-grader Annalise Saponara, 10th-graders Grace Orie and Iulia Gotsis, 11th-graders Forest Richardson, Marisa Wojcikiewicz and Tory Henrichs, 12th-graders Sabina Sister, Helen Cardamone, Halie Parker and Maggie Gasser.

  • The Hilton Head Prep Rummage Sale is 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. There will be gently used furniture, clothing, electronics, toys, kitchenware, tools, appliances, books and more. To donate items or buy a table, contact Kendra Parsick at scotkendra@yahoo.com or 843-338-1867.

  • MAY RIVER MONTESSORI

    EVENTS

  • An alumni pancake breakfast will be at the school 9-11 a.m. Nov. 10. The school invites all past May River Montessori students to return and visit their old classrooms, take a tour of the buildings and eat breakfast. Details: 843-757-2312

  • ENRICHMENT

  • Elementary students will be doing community service at a local foodbank the last Tuesday of each month.

  • Fourth-grade teachers will work 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Chick-fil-A for Spirit Night. Chick-fil-A donates a portion of profits from the evening to the school.

  • HELPING HANDS

  • The student council is sponsoring a "Holiday Food Drive" through Nov. 9. Students are asked to bring canned or other nonperishable food items to the holiday box in each classroom. All food boxes will be distributed to families in need in Bluffton. The goal this year is 4,000 cans.

  • Curriculum Night at Home Depot is 6-7:30 p.m. today. Home Depot will open its doors to students in a lesson to connect their studies to real life activities.

  • SEA PINES MONTESSORI ACADEMY

    EVENTS

  • There will be a Parent Ed Cafè covering "How Parents Can Reinforce Montessori at Home" at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the lobby. The event is open to the public.

  • HELPING HANDS

  • Students who will be traveling to the Montessori Model United Nations next spring will be selling Belk Charity Sale tickets for $5 each during Friday afternoon carpools through Nov. 3.
