A Beaufort man has been released on a $21,335 bond following his arrest Wednesday on a charge of posssession of marijuna with intent to distribute.

Derio Raheem Jones, 25, of Beaufort, also was wanted on two outstanding warrants -- for criminal domestic violence and third degree assault and battery, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Department incident report.

A resident on Windsor Road in Beaufort called 911 at about 10:30 a.m. after Jones came to her house, the report said. After the complainant told Jones to leave, deputies found him parked just down the street. Deputies discovered the outstanding warrants when they ran a background check on his drivers license.

The report said the smell of marijuana coming from the car gave deputies probable cause to search the vehicle. In it they found four separate bags, weighing a total of 85.5 grams, of a substance believed to be marijuana. They also found a scale and plastic baggies, the report said.

Under state law, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana is a felony. Eighty-five grams is the equivalent to about three ounces.

Jones posted bond Friday, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail log.
