The "Fa Be Free: The Dawn of Freedom" event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the freedman's village of Mitchelville during the Civil War, drew a crowd Saturday to Hilton Head Island High School. The event was also a fundraiser for a historic park at the Mitchelville site on the north end of the island.
