Andrew Jackson 20, Beaufort Academy 12

Beaufort Academy came up short against Andrew Jackson, falling 20-12 on Friday in its home finale.

The Eagles (1-6) fumbled at the Andrew Jackson 6 with about 40 seconds remaining in the game. The turnover came a play after Eagles senior Gibson Achurch, a third-year starter at quarterback, was forced from the game with a re-injured ankle after being tackled along the sideline.

Achurch, was returning from a high-ankle sprain, but played sparingly on offense, though he did catch a 13-yard touchdown pass.

"His mobility was very limited, so didn't play much offense as far as quarterback," said Beaufort Academy coach Wheatley Alford. "We put him at receiver, and he gave us all he had. Late in the game, when we were driving, we put him in at quarterback."

Alford said Achurch is out for the season.

Defensively, the Eagles were led by Gavin Palmer, who had 11 tackles, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Achurch was a factor on defense, as well, with seven tackles, a forced fumble and a sack.

Sophomore Tucker Trask played well in Achurch's absence, completing 8 of 15 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Reyn Robinson was his usual self, scoring on a 41-yard reception and rushing for 100 yards on 17 carries.

The win was the first in 20 games for Andrew Jackson (1-7).
