Beaufort County offers wide variety of weekend events

Beaufort County residents and visitors have a broad range of events to choose from this weekend, from a celebration of burgers and beer to polo on the lawn.

SATURDAY

  • Burgers & Brew Fall Festival: Noon to 6 p.m., Shelter Cove Community Park, Hilton Head Island. Benefits the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Children's Scholarship Fund. Admission: $5.

  • Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island's Chili Cookoff: Noon to 4 p.m., Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. Benefits local children's charities. Tickets: $12.

  • "Fa Be Free: The Dawn of Freedom": 6 p.m., Hilton Head Island High School's Visual and Performing Arts Center. Celebrates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Mitchelville and raises money for a park to be built at the site of the former freed-slaves village. Tickets: $30 for adults, $15 for students 18 and younger; go to www.mitchelvillepreservationproject.org.

  • SUNDAY

  • Polo for Charity: Gates open at noon; match begins at 2 p.m., historic Rose Hill Plantation, Bluffton. Sponsored by Rotary Club of Okatie to raise money for student scholarships and other projects.

  • Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., art exhibits on Calhoun Street; 4 p.m., boat parade on the May River and blessing of the fleet on the bluff at the Church of the Cross; 5 to 8 p.m., oyster roast, shrimp boil, barbecue and live music at Oyster Factory Park.
