Prep Roundup, Oct. 12: Ridgeland-Hardeeville's Doe wins Player of Week award

Ridgeland-Hardeeville running back Deo'Vonte Doe is the Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette Player of the Week.

Doe carried the ball 17 times for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the Jaguars' 34-0 Region 5-A win over North Charleston last Friday.

The junior, who broke the 1,000-yard plateau for the season, earned the fans' vote with 40 percent of the vote.

GIRLS TENNIS

Hilton Head Island 5, Berkeley 1: The Seahawks improved to 13-1 and 7-0 in Region 8-AAA, clinching the region championship. Hilton Head Island will make up a rained-out match, hosting James Island at 4 p.m. Oct. 22.

VOLLEYBALL

Bluffton 2, Fort Dorchester 0: The Bobcats (31-6, 9-0) beat Fort Dorchester 25-12, 25-20 to claim the Region 8-AAAA championship.

Contributing for the Bobcats were Jordan Franklin (eight kills, six assists), Abby Roulston (seven kills), Mackenzie Cooler (six kills, 15 assists, 11-0 on serve), Haley Kohler (16-0 on serve) and Morgan Delaplane (19 good digs).

Bluffton plays tonight and Saturday at the Wando Tournament in Mt. Pleasant.

Hilton Head Island 3, Berkeley 0: The Region 8-AAA champion Seahawks (20-9) swept Berkeley 25-21, 25-14, 25-12 to finish a perfect 10-0 in the region.

Seirra Davis led the way with 13 kills, while Brantley Herrington added five kills and nine blocks. Hannah Edelman recorded eight kills, and Renee Homad had 35 assists.

Hilton Head High hosts Bluffton at 6 p.m. Monday for their Dig Pink festivities and Senior Night.

Hilton Head Christian 3, Northwood Academy 1: The Eagles won 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21 behind outside hitter Stevie Desimone's 14 kills to improve to 7-13.

Hilton Head Christian hosts Hilton Head Prep at 5 p.m. Monday.

Hilton Head Prep 3, First Baptist 0: The Dolphins (8-8, 5-6 region) swept First Baptist 27-25, 25-19, 25-20 to get back to .500.

Brooke Churchich led the way with five aces and 33 assists, while Halie Parker added four aces and seven kills. Abby Miles had nine kills, and Jill Brunori tallied 11 kills, four blocks and two aces.

The Dophins play at 5 p.m. Monday at Hilton Head Christian.
