With a final-round of 68 and a three-day score of 14-under-par 202, Todd Hendley is the 2012 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion, holding off Hilton Head Island High history teacher Todd White on Sunday at the par-72, 6,444-yard Forest Lake Club in Columbia.
Starting the day with a two-shot lead, the 54-year-old Thornblade member birdied the first hole and never looked back, completing the day with four birdies, an eagle and two bogeys en route to his first SCGA major championship title.
At one point, Hendley had worked his lead up to five shots after making eagle on the par-5 13th hole. A flurry of birdies by White wasn't enough to catch the seasoned veteran. White finished the event at 10-under-par 204.
Former champion Steve Liebler finished tied for third at 209 along with Robert Godfrey and Chris Mitchell.
Bluffton's Justin Hoft tied for sixth at 72-70-71--213, while Bluffton's Jeff Wong tied for 11th at 75-71-70--216.
