Two men facing firearms charges

Published: October 7, 2012

Two Beaufort men face felony firearms charges after "at least one stolen gun" was found in their possession upon a traffic stop Saturday night, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

Few details were available Sunday on the arrests of Michael Courtney, 35, and Cornelius Watson, 22, who are charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, said Capt. Robert Carson.

Carson said the men were arrested after an 8 p.m. traffic stop near Lafayette and Boundary streets in Beaufort. Watson also is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, but Carson could not comment on the charge.

Both men are being held for prosecution, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
