The No. 1 team in SCISAA 8-man football played up to its ranking Friday night against Beaufort Academy, charging out to a 38-0 lead after one quarter and never looking back.

"We were outmatched, and sometimes you have to tell it like it is," Beaufort Academy coach Wheatley Alford said. "They did what they do best. They passed the ball well, they ran the ball well and they played strong on defense."

St. John's Christian (7-0) led 54-0 at the half and tacked on six more points in the third quarter, but the Eagles (1-6) held them scoreless in the final quarter.

Alford said one of the positives to come out of the night was the fact his banged-up squad made it through a game healthy for the first time all season.

The Eagles are expecting to have quarterback Gibson Achurch make his return from injury next week against Andrew Jackson. It will be a non-region game, and the final home game of the season for the Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
