The BUMMS are at it again.

My favorite men at the Bluffton United Methodist Men club are once again announcing their yearly sale of pecans to benefit church programs and local charities.

The pecans are guaranteed to be from this year's crop, and they are always delicious. How many of us have a pecan tree in our yard? We used to have several but we could never count on it producing any nuts. Some years there was nothing at all.

Have no fear of not having your favorite nut spend the holidays with you wrapped in a delicious batter or cookie. These wonderful treats are a phone call away. I buy several bags and freeze them since they can stay frozen for up to a year. The pecans will be delivered to you in Bluffton when they arrive in November.

Bluffton author Jeff Fulgham has a new title to add to his resume: historian and guide. Jeff is now giving guided kayak history tours on the beautiful May and New Rivers. The river trips mirror the account of the battle that was fought in Bluffton during the Civil War -- actually it should be called "the uncivil war."

Jeff is very knowledgeable about Bluffton and soon will be leading historical walks around Bluffton if you don't care to kayak.

Bobbi Fox stopped by my store the other day to tell me about a fun project she's working on. The Beautification Committee of Rose Hill is inviting the public to a party to celebrate all of the wonderful artists in their plantation.

They are planning a soiree so people can meet the artists who live there and celebrate their talent. The party will be held at the clubhouse from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14.

I think this is a great idea because many times one never knows that their neighbor might be the next Matisse. Another neat aside to the group's work are the homemade birdhouses that residents have built and put around the plantation. They are beautiful, and I know my feathered friends love them too.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Nov. 4, Palmetto Bluff and Coastal Living Magazine are presenting tours of the Coastal Living Style Home. Proceeds will benefit Bluffton Self Help and the Bluffton Boys and Girls Club.
