A defunct tree fund, used to plant new trees and remove dangerous dead ones, could be revitalized in the city of Beaufort. The Tree Board is asking for the fees property owners pay when they remove a tree, which could be increased. The fund had been supported by donations and one-time fees but was depleted years ago. The number of trees being planted in Beaufort has dropped sharply during the past few years.
