A 29-year-old Bluffton man was transported to a Savannah hospital early Saturday after being struck in the face with a beer bottle during a drunken fight at a Bluffton apartment complex, authorities say.

Deputies called to Bluffton House Apartments on Simmonsville Road at about 6 a.m. met a group of men, one of whom was bleeding from several deep cuts on his face, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

The men said they had been drinking beer in the parking lot when an argument broke out between two men, one 34 and the other 29. The younger man had asked the older one to buy more beer, the release said. When the older man refused, the younger man tried to take his wallet. The older man struck him in the face with the bottle, according to authorities.

The injured man was taken to Hilton Head Hospital and later to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, the release said. He has since been treated and released.

No arrests have been made. Investigators are still trying to verify statements given by the men, all of whom were "grossly intoxicated," the release said.
