Prep Roundup, Sept. 28: Bluffton volleyball team still perfect in region play

The Bluffton volleyball team swept Summerville (25-17, 25-14) and Beaufort (25-8, 25-7) to improve to 22-6 overall and 7-0 in Region 8-AAAA.

Mackenzie Cooler led the Bobcats with 14 kills and 13 assists, and Jordan Franklin added 10 kills and 21 assists.

Other contributors for the Bobcats include Abby Roulston (10 kills), Haley Kohler (six kills, four assists and seven digs) and Melissa Bornstein (seven digs).

Bluffton hosts the Beaufort County Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The event will feature the Bobcats, Sumter, Charleston Math & Science, Whale Branch, Hilton Head Island, Hilton Head Prep, Holly Hill Academy, Beaufort High and Beaufort Academy. Teams will be separated into two groups for pool play, and the top teams will play for the gold title and the No. 2 teams will play for the silver championship.

VOLLEYBALL

Thomas Heyward 3, Beaufort Academy 0: The Rebels swept the Eagles 25-16, 25-17, 25-21 to improve to 13-5, 4-2.

Contributors included Victoria Quick (five kills, three aces and an assist), Jordan Brown (five kills, 11 of 11 serving, six digs and two assists), Courtney Childers (nine digs and an assist), Kayla Sanders (14 of 14 serving with an ace and four digs), Taylor Ernestine (three kills, three digs and seven assists), Jordan Hunneycutt (four kills) and Hailey Malphrus (three kills, two aces, 14 of 14 serving, three digs and 10 assists).

The Rebels play at 5 p.m. Monday at Patrick Henry Academy.

Whale Branch: Whale Branch Early College High School swept Denmark- Olar 25-11, 25-10 and Allendale-Fairfax 25-16, 25-22 to improve to 16-3, 6-1 in Region 5-A.

Contributors included Maddy Summerill (10 aces and two kills), Jamie Whalen (16 aces and 13 kills), Kenyada Moultrie (eight aces and five kills), Rietta Salters (eight aces), Niecy Simmons (four aces, four kills) and Olivia Walker (two aces and two kills).

The Warriors play in the Beaufort County Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Bluffton.

Colleton County 3, Battery Creek 0: Teniellia Leak had six kills and Sara Anderson added six aces and two kills for Battery Creek, which was swept, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19

Aujena Mungin finished with two kills and two digs for the Dolphins (10-5), who host a tri-match with Academic Magnet and Burke at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Porter-Gaud 3, Hilton Head Prep 0: The Dolphins were swept 25-13, 25-14, 25-6, falling to 6-5.

Brooke Churchich had 11 assists, Jill Burnori had four kills and five blocks and Marisa Wojcikiewicz added three kills and an ace.

The Dolphins play in the Beaufort County Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Bluffton.

Ashley Hall 3, Hilton Head Christian Academy 0: The Eagles found themselves quickly ousted by their Charleston foes, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-12.

Hilton Head Christian (4-10 overall, 4-9 region) play at Hilton Head Prep at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The deciding doubles match had to be halted because of darkness at 7:24 pm with the score 7-6 in Prep's favor. The girls will travel to Charleston on Tuesday to take on Ashley Hall.
