A 23-year-old man has been charged with abusing a 1-year-old, St. Helena Island child, who was airlifted to a Charleston hospital for treatment, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Jarvis Favian Rogers, 23, was charged Sept. 20 with “abuse, infliction of great bodily harm” and is being held in the Beaufort County jail on a $150,000 bond.

The child had a lacerated liver, a cut tongue and upper lip, along with multiple bruises, the Sheriff’s Office said. The child was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment.
