Prep Roundup, Sept. 26: Bluffton volleyball sweeps tri-match at Beaufort

Bluffton's volleyball team won both of its matches Tuesday in a tri-match at Beaufort High School to improve to 20-6, 5-0 in Region 8-AAAA.

The Bobcats downed Colleton County 2-0 (25-14, 25-16) and dispatched Beaufort High 2-0 (25-9, 25-8).

Abby Roulston led the Bobcats with 11 kills . Jordin Franklin added 10 kills and 13 assists, while Mackenzie Cooler recorded nine kills and 16 assists.

Bluffton hosts St. Vincent's and Calvary Day School, two Savannah schools, at 5:30 p.m. today.

In the third match, Beaufort High defeated Colleton County, 2-0.

Battery Creek 3, Garrett Academy Tech 0: Sara Anderson had 14 aces and six kills to lead the Dolphins to a Region 6-AA win, 25-11, 25-20, 25-13. Tenielia Leek had seven kills and five aces, Tina Kwok had seven aces and a pair of kills, and Walicia Patterson added seven aces. Battery Creek (9-4 overall, 6-2 region) play at Wade Hampton at 5:30 p.m. today.

Hilton Head Island 3, Berkeley 0: The Seahawks (9-5, 4-0) swept Berkeley 25-21, 25-8, 25-18 behind Sierra Davis' 13 attacks.

Other contributors for Hilton Head High include Hannah Edelman (seven attacks), Mallory Lewis (seven attacks, two blocks), Brantley Herrington (five kills, three blocks) and Renee Homad (32 assists).

The Seahawks play two matches Thursday at Stall, beginning at 6 p.m.

Hilton Head Prep 3, Northwood Academy 0: Brooke Churchich tallied 22 assists to lead the Dolphins (6-4) to a three-set sweep, 25-22, 25-11, 25-13.

Halie Parker added 11 kills and six aces, while Jill Brunori had eight kills and two blocks, and Tara Kent added five kills.

Hilton Head Prep plays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Porter-Gaud.

Thomas Heyward 3, St. Andrews 1: The Rebels (12-5, 3-2) won in four tight sets, 27-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22.

Big contributors for the Rebels included Chandler Cook (three aces, three blocks, 13 kills, nine digs), Hailey Malphrus (24 of 25 serving, three aces, 14 digs, 17 assists), Taylor Ernestine (20 assists), Kayla Sanders (16 of 16 serving, four aces, 11 digs), Coutney Childers (11 digs), Jordan Brown (five kills, 16 digs) and Victoria Quick (16 of 16 serving, six aces, 12 kills, 15 digs).

Thomas Heyward plays at 5 p.m. Thursday at Beaufort Academy.

    Pinewood Prep 163, Hilton Head Christian Academy 226: Katlyn Dambaugh shot a 34 to lead Pinewood Prep past the Eagles at Pine Forest Country Club in Summerville. Jamie Hubbard led Hilton Head Christian (1-1) with a 47. Anna Leesmann Eddy carded a 48, Molly Lucci had a 63 and Bethany Bunce shot a 68 for the Eagles, whose next match will be Oct. 3 at Santee National against Wilson Hall.

    Hilton Head Island High: The Seahawks finished eighth this past weekend at the Hurricane Tournament hosted by Wren High School.

    The Seahawks shot 758 as a team, led by Nathalie Lezcano (85-83--168), who finished 16th. Lexington won with a score of 591, while South Aiken's Taylor Ann Dobson was the medalist with a score of 68-72--140.
