2 competing for national scholarships

Published: September 25, 2012

A student from Battery Creek High School and one from Bluffton High School could earn National Achievement Scholarships this year.

Battery Creek student Kallie Brown and Bluffton High student Ariyanne Colston are among more than 1,600 black high school seniors to be named semifinalists in the program, based on their PSAT scores.

About 800 of the semifinalists will receive the awards, which will be announced in the spring. To advance, students must submit an application that includes information about their academic record, participation in activities, leadership abilities and educational goals. They must also be recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm their PSAT performance.
