The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island has received 17 commitments from local cooks for the 28th Annual Chili Cookoff next month.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. The PortaJohns band will perform, and a supervised children's area with games and activities, including a water slide, will be available.

Proceeds benefit The Children's Center, the Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, the Children's Memorial Fund and several youth programs.
