The Beaufort Eagles were in a tight 7-7 battle in the first quarter at home Friday night against Carolina Forest when the curtain rose on the JaClay Mixon show.
The senior running back took a punt 61 yards to the house to give Beaufort (3-2) a 14-7 lead. Mixon would go on to rush for 263 yards and four more touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 42-28 win.
"He had a pretty spectacular night," Beaufort High coach Mark Clifford said. "He and that offensive line have become pretty tight."
Carolina Forest (1-5) won the toss, took the ball and drove right down and scored first on Beaufort. The Eagles responded when Shuler Black connected with Stephen Baggett for a touchdown to tie the game.
On the next drive, the Eagles defense held, and Mixon scored on the punt return to give Beaufort High a lead it would never lose.
