Public could use park along Okatie

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 20, 2012

My young family would love to have an easily accessed Beaufort County park on the Okatie River property owned by the Graves family.

Our community does well with parks geared to sports, and I am so grateful for those. We really don't have any parks that provide good marsh and tidal river experiences, even though they are all around us. The Okatie park site sounds like an excellent and varied resource.

It also seems to me that the tactics the county seems to be implementing are not the sort of thing the public would expect, nor are they productive in actually making anything happen. As natives to the area, the Graves family offered something that sounds exactly like what the county could use. The rest doesn't add up. It sounds like old-school politics in action here in the South.
