Frank Szczepanik, left, a Mill Creek resident who saved a baby girl from drowning in the neighborhood pool in July, receives a Citizens Heroism award from Fire Chief Barry Turner, middle, and public education officer Sandy Stroud, right, at the Bluffton Township Fire District department in Bluffton on Tuesday evening. Szczepanik spotted the 21-month-old facedown in the pool, pulled her from the water and gave her CPR before police and paramedics arrived. Szczepanik is not "a big pat-on-the-back guy" but that didn't stop firefighters from publicly thanking him for the rescue, said Stroud. Turner said interest in the department's CPR classes have increased since the rescue. As for Szczepanik, he said it is thanks enough knowing that the baby girl is doing well.
