St. Helena house fire deemed suspicious

Published: September 18, 2012

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a fire early Tuesday at 7 Edding White Drive on St. Helena Island that destroyed a home that was being renovated.

Deputies arrived at about 1:30 a.m. to find firefighters battling a blaze that fully engulfed the home, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

The cause of the fire is considered suspicious because the home had no electricity, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh.

A family of three was not at home at the time of the fire. The Red Cross provided a place for them to stay, money to replace belongings and comfort kits.

Anyone with information about the fire can call Investigator C. Wilson at 843-255-3409 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
