A 23-year-old Hilton Head Island man has been charged with the Labor Day-weekend armed robbery of a store in Sea Pines, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Rion Marcel Beaty was arrested outside of a Bluffton apartment complex Monday on charges of armed robbery, grand larceny and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Witnesses identified Beaty as the man with a bandana over his face who held up employees of the South Beach General Store on Sept. 2, a news release said.

Beaty had gone into the store earlier posing as a customer and asked about merchandise. He returned moments later in disguise and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the store's safe after holding up employees and patrons at gunpoint, the release said.

Beaty is in the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
