  • Elections for the 2012-13 Band Boosters were held recently. The officers are: president, Wendell Roberson Sr.; vice president, Alan Langford; treasurer, Judith Daigle; secretary, Millicent Lucas; and fundraising chairman, Clifford Johnson Sr. Band Booster meetings are at 5:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the band room.

  • The Lower and Middle schools SCISA chess tournament will be Thursday.

  • BEAUFORT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • There will be an informational meeting about supplemental education services 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the school's cafeteria. Supplemental education services are after-school tutoring for up to two hours per day provided because of the school's Title I Improvement Status. Students must be in third- through fifth-grade, have failed a section of PASS testing last year, receive free to reduced-price lunch, or be black. Details: 843-322-2332

  • Lady's Island Middle School now has a radio station. The AM signal can reach up to a one-mile diameter audience. Tune in to 1630 on the AM dial and get current school news and updates.

  • The PTO has school color hoodies available for sale in the guidance office.

  • The school's Scholastic Book Fair will kick off with a pizza party tonight. The book fair will be open Tuesday through Friday.

  • HELPING HANDS

  • Riverview's third annual Read-a-Thon takes place this month. The school needs sponsors to support students in their reading through donations that will go toward books, new curriculum and the eighth-grade trip. The school also needs "mystery readers" who visit classrooms to share their favorite book Sept. 28. Details: 843-379-0123

  • A reunion will be held for anyone who attended the Grays Consolidated High School, which was located in the Grays community of Jasper County.
