Prep Roundup, Sept. 16: Bluffton girls, Hilton Head boys win county cross country meet

CROSS COUNTRY

Beaufort County meet: Hilton Head Island High School took the boys team title and Bluffton won on the girls' side in Saturday's meet at Honey Horn Plantation on Hilton Head Island.

The top ten runners in the boys race all hailed from Hilton Head High or Bluffton. The Bobcats' Josh Tierney was the county champion, finishing in a time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds.

Beaufort High's boys finished third and Hilton Head Prep was fourth.

The girls race was won by Hilton Head High's Faith Lifer in a time of 20:30, 21 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Hilton Head High's Carly McGlinn. Casey Witkowski finished third for county champion Bluffton.

Beaufort High, led by Alexandra Zapp's 10th-place finish, took third in the girls event. Hilton Head Prep was fourth.

Runners from Sea Pines Montessori also competed in the event.

SWIMMING

Beaufort High meet: Bluffton's boys and Hilton Head High's girls were the winners in a three-team meet hosted by Beaufort High School. Bluffton's boys scored 67 points, 40 ahead of Hilton Head High. The Hilton Head High girls had 51 points, 10 better than Bluffton. Beaufort High's girls were third with 2 points.

Hilton Head Christian: Charlie Guenther swam a personal best to win the 100 breaststroke for the Eagles at Saturday's Pinewood Prep Invitational in Summerville. Hilton Head Christian, gearing up for the SCISAA state meet Oct. 13 in Augusta, saw all of its swimmers shave time off their best marks. The Eagles host a meet Tuesday at the Island Rec Center before.
