As the fourth quarter faded away Friday night at Battery Creek High School, a cheerleader sat on the training table on the Dolphins sideline with a bag of ice on her knee.

Maybe it was too much cheering.

If so, it would be hard to fault the Battery Creek faithful. The Dolphins stuffed Garrett Academy Tech 39-18 to end their 13-game losing streak with authority.

"It feels lovely," said Battery Creek's Yuneek Crittendon. "It feels great. This was a long time coming."

"It's been tough," Battery Creek head coach Jim Shuman said. "We had a difficult offseason and then two promising games that didn't pan out. It definitely feels good to get a win, and it's a region win."

Crittendon was the Dolphins' Mr. Everything again on Friday.

After Quinton Carter-Lee's second long touchdown reception from Jalien Holt gave Garrett a 12-7 lead in the first quarter, Crittendon reclaimed the momentum all by himself, returning the kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and giving the Dolphins (1-3, 1-0) a lead they would not lose again.

He would score on a 2-yard run out of the backfield in the second quarter to put the Dolphins up 27-12 and capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 23-yard touchdown reception from Raekwon Smalls.

His fourth-quarter interception of Holt was icing on the cake. And his most spectacular play didn't show up in the scoring summary.

In the the second quarter, Crittendon caught a pass in the right flat about 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage with nowhere to go. He reversed field all the way to the left hash mark about 10 yards behind the line, before weaving his way back accross the field diagonally for a 22-yard gain.

"He's a special player," Shuman said. "Offense, defense, special teams -- he puts it out there every time."

Smalls ran the option to perfection, almost always making the correct read and sometimes getting the handoff away when it seemed there was a defender between him and the running back.

"We made some adjustments at halftime to help him out," Shuman said. "But he's really showing some maturity, and he's still just a 10th-grader."

And then there was the defense.

After making an adjustment to stop the long pass play that plagued the Dolphins early on, Battery Creek gave Garrett little room to run and forced five turnovers.

Willie Doe had a 44-yard fumble return for a score in the first quarter that took away any momentum the Garrett offense had.

In addition to Crittendon's pick, Rhaheem Cooper had an interception in each half for the Dolphins, and Deandre Johnson added one in the fourth quarter.

"It was a region game and we wanted to come out and play hard and pay our fans back who have supported us, and that's what we did," Crittendon said. "And it feels good."
